health

blah

I have been under the weather since Tuesday night and it’s getting old… but I know it’s ALMOST OVER! Ryan tested positive for influenza virus yesterday at the drs. (he got sick Wednesday night) Chris had gotten sick last Sunday night and finally went back to school Monday. Ryan’s going back to preschool tomorrow. So we know what we had. Luckily (so far) neither Rog nor Colleen have gotten this.

I hadn’t been that sick in years though – 2-3 times my temp was almost 101 (for me that’s high) and the barking cough, headache on and off, and aches. I thought I was all better today (had been feeling better since Saturday) but for some reason the aches are back in my legs. Ugh!

Ryan’s temp was 104 on Thursday, and on and off 103, 102, etc., through until about Saturday. He’s doing better and finally ate breakfast this morning. Chris’s temp had been over 103 twice too.

I am overwhelmed now with housework but at the moment can’t get started. Yesterday I cleaned up the living room, made a dinner, and cleaned under the dining table, and ran dishwasher. I still have tons of dishes to wash, and laundry to do.

Would anyone like some cheese with my whine…..

residency, waivers

mind-boggling

Comments: hello – thanks for prayers and thoughts! After discussing, we decided not to do this at this time, but to really start spending some time researching facilities in this area so that we are more prepared when they call again (which they will – Chris will keep this top spot and when the next opening occurs they call us back). We just would feel more comfortable with more researching being done in the placement – 2 days just isn’t long enough to decide. I also am concerned with what I’m reading about Governor Taft cutting funding to ICFMR facilities (which is what this was) and want to learn more about how the private facilities are funded. I wanted to post a site about it, but the screen froze loading the pdf, so I’ll be back with it….

dori, very sick (ugh) and not quite up to all this today…. please continue to pray for us!

(2020 these links are no longer valid)  Chris got the I/O Waiver in 2011.  Ryan got the I/O waiver in 2018.

Comments: I agree with having a waiver program in place for home services. We are on a waiting list for this (and were told last year that the wait may be 20 years). We were on the wait list also for the ICFMRs, which is the type of opening that came up today. We were on both lists for the same amount of time (3 years). So while we would love to have the first kind of waiver (40 hours of help in the home per week instead of the 14 we have now), the wait is ridiculous, and to think of this going through and adding ALL the people on the second list that are in ICFMRs now is just mind-boggling!

astounding phone call!

(Note from 2020 Needless to say we didn’t do it — we felt he was way too young — wish we had waited in 2008, also.  Look how young he was here…. glad we at least waited 3 more years.  Picture added in 2020.

Comments: I just got a phone call that our local county MRDD Center has an opening for Chris to live there. They really want to know in 2 days so they can offer it to someone else if we don’t want it!

I’m overwhelmed. I can’t get ahold of Rog to tell him.

Geez! I don’t know what to do. Pray for us!

check it out!!

https://criscollrj.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=1&pid=4&slideshow=5000 (NO LONGER A VALID SITE – 2020)

(note from 2020 – went in and made this a link as I have done here and there but it is not live.  Have no idea what this slideshow was!  But will leave here as it’s interesting to look back at how I had to show pictures back 15 years ago… a lot more complicated than now!!!)  But don’t worry about looking it up —

I have had fun with this — changed web servers (half my site is still down) but I have had a lot of fun playing with this coppermine photo gallery from Fantastico that my web server offers (just think I had never even heard of any of this 1 month ago….)

wow, I just remembered today is my dad’s birthday. Happy 74th birthday Dad, you would have been so proud of your grandchildren…. you can see your third one from heaven, little Ryan!!

(Dad died 10-16-97)

children, reflections, Ryan

Baby…

so odd — this was Ryan’s first day to take the bus to school (his third day). He got on a little bus and rode away about 15 minute ago. I am alone. Monday I had Colleen home with pink eye so I wasn’t alone – we had some quality time together playing board games. Yesterday I dropped him off and stayed awhile, having him practicing getting on the bus (he rode it home yesterday). Today is my first day to have the whole time at home (11:50-2:30 when Chris gets home). Ryan doesn’t get home until 3:10.

My life as a mom is changing again. Baby’s growing up!

BACK HOME!

User:dori
(copied from Pet Hub) HAPPY DANCE!

I just found Spice! I was sitting here only 5-10 minutes after posting my last disappointed worried “giving up” post, and out of the corner of my eye I saw something moving by the front closet by our front door. It was Spice! I slowly got down on the floor after getting some food (luckily only about 3 feet away in my cabinet) and cupped my hands and gently called her (my heart was pounding!!)  Luckily we had hand-tamed her!! She came and got a honey drop and crawled in my hand, and then I cupped her and carried her to the cage. Her cage was half apart as we were going to just take it down soon!!! So I just set her in there, gave her more food and watched her drink some water.

WE ARE SO HAPPY! I woke my 10 year old daughter and told her. I put all the parts of the cage together but still keep checking it – I don’t trust it anymore.

I’m thinking of going to Walmart today and buying a huge rubbermaid bin to just set her whole cage down into for right now (she has a Crittertrail.) I can’t afford to buy a new cage right now. What do you guys think? Advice?

Ahhhh, so happy to have our girl home!!!!

Missing Spice

Spice is still missing. We had some high hopes the first few nights as food was missing from our room’s food stash (we put a stash in each room) but now the last few days there’s nothing missing in any rooms and we haven’t heard anything in 2 days. We still have the cage and the bucket trap in our room but I’m wondering if tonight I’ll move it into the living room, where her cage always was, up on the filing cabinet. I could put on the floor next to the filing cabinet.

I haven’t seen any poop or pee paths, either, though, so am wondering if she indeed has vanished in thin air.
