the mundane

A little more on little old me. Then I hope to come back soon (next week early hopefully?) and write comments to you all…

Freezing here, but it’s warm inside! I’m not going anywhere until afternoon. Last night I went to the other house and got some boots – for Rog, Chris & possibly Ryan (not sure if they fit). I couldn’t find any hats or gloves, so I’m going to have to go somewhere tonight with Doreen before or after Chiro and get some. My boots are at Gayle’s still. Tomorrow the kids have Saturday camp so I know they’ll need hats and gloves if they go outside. So no time to hunt all over.

I may go tomorrow to the other house for a while with Rog to pack up more stuff. We still need to go through everything there due to the moths and also just to sort. I’ve thrown lots of stuff away! We did take some moths here but are keeping all of our dry goods in big plastic rubbermaid bins. So far no problem with those. Then we need to do some birthday shopping for Chris.

And I’ll have to get up in the attic again at the old house to get all the rest of our Christmas decorations!

Last night after we got back, I was taking all the stuff in the house, and I turned around and saw Doreen’s vehicle as she was backing out – with the rear in the ditch and the front facing upwards a bit. Sigh. Some man came by and got someone else with a big truck and they pulled her out. But yep, some serious ditches here!!

Another surprise – I was in the basement yesterday and just happened to be looking towards Ryan’s toy box and I saw a little figure with ears and eyes – of course, I think Spice? But I looked and no, it’s GRAY and it went running off then behind Ryan’s toy boxes. MICE. Sigh.

So as usual lots of work and excitement at the household.

Better get to it – need to clean basement now and mop with bleach water and see if I see a mouse hole? And I need to clean upstairs again too….

Oh, I also fell down the outside stairs last night with my winter coat on thankfully- got a sore hipbone but no damage. I need my BOOTS for traction! We’ll be going out the garage from now on!

Thanks for all the comments! And important pierced ear question!

I will try and respond to each and every one soon. Let me just say it’s a pleasure to have so many varied and interesting friends on here. I enjoy reading your journals and even though I don’t often post I feel honored to have been added to all your friends lists.

🙂

Thanks for the snow comments!! I’m in Ohio. And yesterday we got like 6″ of snow! Just here, and in the immediate maybe 30 miles around us right by Lake Erie. People in Cleveland and west got nothing. It’s like that here in the NE Ohio snow belt. But it was early! And we had no boots here yet or hats, gloves, or mittens. They were at the other house. I went and got some last night, as much as I could find in the attic over there. But I’m still missing MY boots, and most of the gloves.

PIERCED EAR QUESTION. I got my ears pierced 3 years ago. I usually wear some small earrings all the time, though sometimes I take them out for a month or so at a time. I just recently wore good hypoallergenic ones for about 2 months. I took them out 3 days ago and put in some hoops because I was going to some meetings and was in the mood for a change. I took them out the same night, but had noticed the left one had actually fallen out before I realized it. Wed. and Thurs. I wore none. Last night my left ear lobe hole felt itchy – I scratched it before I realized it but then stopped and realized it felt like it had a bump and it hurt a little. So I put some rubbing alcohol on a pad and cleaned it off. It has continued to itch now for about 12 hours and I’ve put alcohol on it 3 times. I looked at it in the mirror after cleaning today and see there is like this little white bump poking through from behind after I cleaned the back. Does anyone have any idea what this is, where it came from, and will it just go away on its own? Should I avoid earrings for a long period of time? Or just a few days? I’m thinking one thing I should do is give all my earrings a good bath in rubbing alcohol – it’s been a long time since I did that. Also, should I put something else on my ear besides rubbing alcohol – should I put neosporin or something on it?

Thanks — dori

house repairs

Wow, this “My LJ” is pretty cool!

I suddenly have this my LJ page – wonder how long I didn’t see this?

A place to answer recent comments to me – cool!

Just the recent happenings – then rushing off ….

update – turned out there was a big root in the line going from the downstairs sewer. The plumbers explained that probably in the months the previous owners weren’t living here that that happened with all the trees we have. They could see that the owner had cleaned out the other drains regularly but that this one didn’t looked touched. Their opinion was that the owner just had never had a problem with this particular drain before. It cost us $600, but that was less than they had predicted. So that was good. Everything seems to be running along well now.

house repairs

plumbing

QUICKLY.

Thanks for comments all! It just seems to go on and on here. I will have to do my complete summary soon – it is very interesting! But no time now.

We LOVE OUR HOUSE. However, we have some plumbing problems. Much more than owner indicated. Only problem he indicated was that toilet upstairs was a little loose, and he made steps to fix it. So we move in, and now, we can’t use downstairs toilet, sink, washer, nothing. It is blocked in the yard! Like 60 feet out. We already spent $380 for a plumber/roto rooter guy. He said it would be over $1,000 for the rest. Digging up yard to replace pipe, etc. Our upstairs toilet was supposedly fine AFTER overflowing like 4 times. Well, it leaked again last night, (clean water, from the tank and bottom of toilet?) went through the furnace grate and back wall, and down in to the furnace room, and back through the basement all the way to the back wall where we have a computer hooked up. Luckily it was turned off. This actually happened one other time, but we thought everything was fixed so we didn’t move it (last week) I am moving it this morning, to the other wall.

But we’ll be okay. We bought this house cheap because we suspected problems. Even though the owner said everything was fine, we were suspicious because when we first came to look at it the downstairs water was all SHUT OFF!!! (We know that because Chris PEED in the toilet downstairs during open house !!! and the realtor had to go get the bucket.) We’re like, why is the water off? She seemed to not know (uh-huh?) That was a different realtor, than the one we bought it from. We’ve let them know (realtor and owner) and are awaiting results. We think the previous owner should contribute something to this repair as it should have been disclosed. Unless he just never used the bathroom downstairs or did laundry for 12 years he lived here? I don’t think so…..

So when we came and looked at it again in August they had the water on (new broker guy – the one we fired from being our loan guy because he seemed unethical!!!) So they flushed it for us and everything to show it was working. Well, it only worked for 1 week after we moved in. Passed home inspection, because of course it was still flushing then.

Glad we bought it cheap. He was asking 157,900 last winter, then went down to 149,9. Then by the time we came back in the picture it was 144, and we offered 136. We agreed at 139. I actually wish we’d have offered less, but we still got a good deal.

Our in-laws are buying our old house and selling it after fixing up. We’re making a small profit, enough to pay for this plumbing and pay off credit cards. then we’ll just have the van payment. That is good!

more soon, including moving day summary!

love, d

(2020, wow, amazing to look back at how fast the plumbing problems started.  We struggled with a lot of it all the way until 2011 (6 years!) when the county rehabbed our house and put a new sewer line in from the addition, out to the street.  A portion of the problem remained until we find another Hidden sewer line on the opposite side of the house, in the DRIVEWAY! that had never been cleaned out.  Did that in 2014 and things have been fine since!)

relocation

hey, derry, NH friends — check out this dream

I had the most bizarre dream last night! I live in Ohio, right? Well, last night I dreamt we had to move right away because my husband had a job transfer to work in Concord, NH. So we had to sell this house fast and go look in Concord. In the dream, I said, hey, this is cool, I can visit all my LJ friends in Derry.

?!

So how close to Derry, NH is Concord, NH?

Isn’t the brain a strange thing?

dori, settling in and NOT wanting to move again anytime soon!
