We are enjoying the summer as much as possible without going nuts Chris just started school today and I think he had fun. It was a new school for him. They said he liked the water play. He always does!

Colleen is getting a lot of outdoor time with swimming with friends and her boating class.

The summer is really kinda going fast….

One more week until Ryan starts school! I’ll be working more then – I’ve taken a few weeks off.

Instead of “The Dog Ate My Homework,” it’s–

5-11-07 (have to figure out how to change dates on these after the fact!)

–“My Headphones Sound Like Crap and I Didn’t Know It.” And this is why the transcription company I failed should give me a second chance!

Oh my. As any reader (hello out there πŸ˜‰ ) knows, I was upset that I failed a test for a transcription company that is spoken of as the cream of the crop. I just accepted that I must have messed up a portion of it and thus was not chosen.

Lo and behold, my headphones broke last night. I had bought them in February, high-falutin πŸ˜‰ noise-reducing RCA headphones. Then I plugged in the old ones I used before that (that have no pads on them – uncomfortable) and was amazed at how suddenly the audio was clearer. I relistened and found ALL KINDS Of errors and omissions and corrections that had to be made to my document.

Then I realized today that I took my tests last week or two on those awful headphones that broke last night (I would never recommend RCA noise reducing headphones now!). I thought they were so great and didn’t realize what I was missing.

Well, I had the whim today of checking my test file and lo and behold FULL of errors and inaudibles I should have caught. The other headphones must have inserted some kind of wind into the files. I emailed them (it probably won’t work) but explained that I just found out about a huge problem with my old headphones and would it be possible to look at my resubmitted, re-proofed files again.

I’m just so grateful I caught this before I turned in a terrible file today – I’m doing my first project for a company I worked at last year – what a bad impression THAT would have been.

Now I’m sitting here thinking about the conference I did for the local guy a few months ago and how I was complaining about the poor audio – maybe it was all the headphones then too.

Is it a consipiracy?

There’s something about me making a decision, that means I will immediately second guess myself.  It’s cold (we narrowly missed several more inches of snow with a lake effect snow warning being canceled); it’s probably still windy; Ryan has an ear infection, and was very crabby, crying, and irritable; and Chris is being ornery in his own way today [doesn’t want to move to do anything, won’t take his meds this morning, and who knows if I’d have got him out the door?].  So I decided to keep them home from the Saturday camp (twice a month, they go and swim and play and have crafts at a center in our area).  So as soon as I make the decision, Ryan immediately acts more healthy.  I say to myself, did I make the right decision?  I gave up their playtime, and my quiet time, to keep them both home because I’m worried about Ryan’s health, and then he acts fine?

Yes, it’s a conspiracy to make me second guess my decisions.  Should I have sent them?  I’d have had my SHOWER then, and some quiet time. And they’d have had fun fun fun!  But then of course, if I HAD sent them, I’d be second guessing myself again. (Is Ryan coughing more again?  Did his fever come back (hasn’t had one since Monday), is he sneezing all over everyone, and are they behaving themselves or causing a big ruckus?

Ahh well.  The fun of parenthood.

(2020, had to add — with COVID-19 parents can never second-guess themselves again — what a world we are NOW living in!!)

WORKING!

I’m WORKING! I had decided to go back to one company, and to start next week, just like one day a week. So that is in the works and I’m updating my files for them to get ready. But in the meantime, that local man that I had worked for last summer called me out of the blue with a large typing project. I’m actually already working on it and will be working for him clear through the week until I start the other place next weekend. Strange how things work — I don’t know now if I’ll ever get my happy new year greetings out like I usually do, but you know I mean well — SO HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

and the start of my husband’s business site….

https://criscollrj.com/site files//brightness.html

[note from 2010 – we don’t really practice the brightness.html business at this time – and I am on a minimum mode with type-align but if anyone is interested in transcription, let me know what your turnaround time need is and I will consider your terms.]

(additional 2020 -wow, can’t believe those business sites still open!  will have to get them on our line-bright site in some fashion — ironically starting transcription again shortly after a 9 year break….)

fun fun!

I don’t really want more business right now but getting my name out a little may not be a bad thing in case this job would get too slow or not work out. I did a business card too with that same logo on it and my husband made his own also with the logo on his web site (he actually made his card first and I stole the logo off it and put on the site).

dori, who has to get back to typing CD #2 of 3 due Tuesday…

scary!

Thanks, Heather, for alerting me to this —

check this out, guys

Check that out.. put in your addy + it’ll show you a map of where the sex offenders are near you. Click on one of the red boxes (offenders) + it’ll tell you their name, what they look like, what they did + when.”

And, am I the only idiot that forgets for entries on end to put “friends” only? I just changed like 10 entries from public to friends. I’m going to have to see if there’s a default for that…..

(2020 obviously above is a reference to LiveJournal — this was a friends-only blog on there.  I actually had to delete a lot of stuff to make this a public blog….)

dori, who’s proud to say she typed 2/3 of a CD at 6:00 a.m…..

yay

Yay I got 3 more CD’S! He paid me $25 and said next time (Tuesday) he’ll have me sign non-compete/confidentiality agreement and start me on the 1099 system via checks. I guess he liked the work!!!

I was so embarrassed – he asked me to print out my copy of what I typed and I explained we’re buying printer cartridges today – that it might look bad. It did look pretty bad — he seemed to understand. It was all blurry and smearing.

prospects…

He’s not sure what he really wants to do but at this point needs to just get something fast. We’re really hoping once Ryan goes to school I can work more and then he’ll work less and go back to school. He’s got to settle what career he’s going to do but he needs more schooling. So this next job he gets will probably be just another “job” and not his career, but who knows….

Amazingly I have been offered this job:
SECRETARY Part-time. Work from home preparing marketing materials. Exc. typing, organizational, computer proficiency in Word, Power Point, E-mail/internet.
that I applied for today in the News-Herald via email! I just have to pick up my StartStop pedal from the other house and make sure it’s compatible to this computer in transcribing CD’S. I can’t believe it. I probably will be working 10 hours a week. Rog is going to help me until he finds a job.

Wow, who would have known?

life, reflections, work, work at home

tired of things….

I know it’s all part of being a mom…. at home.

But for some reason I just had this urge just now to find a job! I know I CAN’T! But I was perusing the legal secretary ads for some reason. I couldn’t stop. I worked for SO long at so many different things and I loved it. Over 1 year as a word processor in 87. 6 years from 88-94 and another 7 months in 2003 at a legal secretary job that I loved. And another 4-5 part time legal secretary jobs that were okay, just okay, through the years. Then one full time legal secretary job in 03 that I hated in many ways but loved the work. I really did have enough of working.

When i was done for good in Dec. of 03 I was OVERJOYED! Excited to be a stay at home mom, to be DONE with the rat-race. Ready to have my picture perfect house, work out many hours at the Y, volunteer, spent lots of quality time with my kids doing orderly crafts, teaching them perfect manners, and cooking lots of from scratch meals and having a garden. Oh, AND IMMEDIATELY starting my music therapy program at college.

HA HA HA HA HA.

Not to leave anything out, from 94-02 I also worked AT HOME – a lot. Typing at home for some attorneys. Typing at home for the word processing job I worked at in 87. Working at home for corporate transcription firms out of state. And finally (I LOVED THIS) legal transcripts for a court reporter. I just got ANOTHER offer to do this this summer doing criminal transcripts. I love doing those…. I wanted to say yes badly. But I said no. Because I know I can’t handle it.

I LOVE BEING HOME. But I need a break. I think school starting for my kids in 5 or 6 weeks will be good for me. I just need a break.

But I loved a lot about working – the finishing something feeling, the time alone, the breaks, the lunch hours, the MONEY! I liked dressing up. And the break wasn’t that bad.

But I also hated a lot of it – the driving, the rushing, the panicking if I wasn’t perfect, the fear over losing my job over my kids’ illnesses (which I did, twice), and missing my kids. And working at home isn’t perfect either — you do get more flexibility but you have to STILL DO YOUR WORK – all night if need be. I remember falling asleep at my desk many nights trying to do all nighters and still get up at 6 to get kids off to school.

So, I know I am blessed, I’m home, I don’t have to do this anymore.  We are making enough now to look for a bigger house.

Well, just had to vent a little, though I think this is disjointed and doesn’t make much sense! I’ll write more later– dishes, cooking dinner, piles of papers I sorted, bills, laundry, and a little boy sitting in the stroller and an older son hungry for dinner await! (Colleen is having fun with grandma today!)….. I don’t usually just park Ryan in the stroller but he was really driving me nuts – he threw something and hit me in the head — OUCH – I had to put ice on it.

dori — wanting to change background soon as I always do.

RJ….

RJ had speech eval today and they want us to closely watch him and work with him a LOT as he may be a little behind. I was kind of thinking of doing some work at

home but now am reconsidering that. I think my hands might be full…. the kids are my priority!

This is a fearful area for us as Chris lost all his speech at 2 1/2. Ryan will be 2 on 2/22. But they said his play activity was great and that he didn’t seem in the least autistic. I’m just not sure I’m now going to send back him to day care at all right now – may just work with him at home intensely for awhile. The day care was able to take him on an as-needed basis so I could type at home. Well, at least I know that option is available if I need it!
Kiddoes – always something.

I have more to update but so busy….

One thing I did want to mention though is my grandma passed away on 12/30. We will sure miss her! She was 92 1/2.
